Between the Tags
Between the Tags is a short hypertext game about Black women, fandom, memory, and care.
Inspired by fanfiction archives, recommendation chains, and late-night reading sessions, the work invites players to navigate an interactive network of tags, comments, fragments, and digital traces. Rather than following a traditional narrative, players move through interconnected pathways of memory and association, uncovering the relational practices that allow Black women characters and the communities that gather around them to persist beyond the limits of canon.
The project explores how Black women are remembered, reimagined, and cared for within fan communities. It asks what kinds of knowledge exist between stories, what traces remain when archives disappear, and how digital communities create their own systems of preservation, recognition, and belonging.
There are no levels to complete and no correct path through the work. Instead, players are encouraged to wander, revisit, and discover connections at their own pace.
